A new study from Kyndryl reveals a stark gap in enterprise artificial intelligence adoption. While 57% of organizations have deployed AI across their operations, only 11% have achieved their top two strategic objectives. The findings, based on a survey of 1,100 business leaders, suggest that rapid deployment is outpacing the ability to deliver measurable results.

The report, which looks ahead to 2026, also flags a worrying trend in workforce readiness. Despite the push to integrate AI, employee preparedness is actually declining. Leaders cited a lack of skilled talent and unclear governance as primary barriers to success. Many companies are rushing to implement AI tools without first building the necessary infrastructure or training programs.

The data indicates that the gap between deployment and impact is widening. Organizations that hit their goals tend to have stronger data management practices and clearer executive alignment. In contrast, the majority of firms are stuck in a cycle of experimentation, struggling to move from pilot projects to enterprise-wide value. The study concludes that without addressing the human and structural side of AI, most companies will continue to fall short of their ambitions.
