A traveling showcase of adaptive tools and hands-on activities is making its way through Snohomish County, bringing new opportunities for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The Innovation Lab Roadshow, supported by a grant from the Washington State Department of Social and Health Services, recently stopped at Willow Place, where participants explored assistive technology designed to increase independence and engagement.
One of the regular attendees, Ethan, has become a vocal supporter of the new programming. He has been seen trying out voice-activated devices, adaptive gaming controllers, and simple robotics kits that respond to touch or sound. The roadshow aims to demonstrate how everyday tasks like cooking, communication, and leisure can be made easier with the right tools.
Staff members at Willow Place noted that the activities go beyond simple entertainment. They help build confidence and problem-solving skills. For many participants, this is the first time they have used technology that adapts to their specific needs rather than the other way around.
The roadshow will continue to visit different locations across the county in the coming months. Organizers hope to reach more people who may benefit from seeing what is possible with modern assistive devices. The goal is not just to show off gadgets, but to spark ideas for how these tools can be integrated into daily life and long-term care plans.
