Mission's crime rate has dropped by 16 percent over the last six months, according to new data from the Texas Department of Public Safety's Crime Reporting System. Police Chief Cesar Torres attributed the sharp decline to both the hard work of his officers and the department's investment in new technology.
Chief Torres highlighted the role of advanced surveillance tools, including a network of cameras and real-time monitoring systems, in helping officers respond faster and more effectively. He said the technology acts as a force multiplier, giving patrol units a clearer picture of what is happening on the streets before they arrive on scene.
The chief also praised the men and women of the Mission Police Department for their dedication. He noted that community cooperation has been essential, with residents reporting suspicious activity more frequently. The combination of proactive policing and modern tools has allowed the department to target high-crime areas and prevent offenses before they happen.
The 16 percent reduction covers a broad range of offenses, from property crimes to violent incidents. Chief Torres said the department will continue to refine its approach, focusing on data-driven strategies to keep the downward trend going. He expressed confidence that the partnership between technology and trained officers will lead to even safer neighborhoods in the months ahead.
