GLOBALFOUNDRIES Inc., trading under the ticker GFS on the Nasdaq, has officially entered the quantum computing hardware race in a significant way. The company announced on May 21 the creation of a new business unit called Quantum Technology Solutions. This division is tasked with scaling up the manufacturing of quantum chips, moving the technology from research labs toward commercial production.
The move comes as GLOBALFOUNDRIES has already been recognized as one of the top ten best performing quantum computing stocks so far in 2026. With this new initiative, the company is building on previous investments in advanced packaging and specialized fabrication processes. The effort starts with active customer engagements, working alongside a list of quantum innovators who are developing next-generation processors.
By leveraging its existing semiconductor manufacturing expertise, GLOBALFOUNDRIES aims to solve some of the hardest challenges in quantum hardware, such as qubit stability and cryogenic control electronics. The company is positioning itself as a foundry partner for the quantum ecosystem, rather than designing its own quantum processors. This approach could lower the barrier for startups and research institutions that need reliable, scalable chip production. The launch signals that the industry is moving past the theoretical stage and into practical, high-volume manufacturing for quantum systems.
