The Glendale Unified School District has officially approved a comprehensive technology refresh plan to address its aging inventory of student and staff devices. According to district officials, the current fleet of Google Chromebooks and staff-assigned computers is nearing its end of life, necessitating a significant upgrade.
Frank Schlueter, the district’s director of Educational Technology & Information Services, highlighted the critical need for the update. He noted that the existing hardware is becoming increasingly unreliable and struggles to support modern educational software and security standards. This planned refresh is seen as a vital investment to ensure equitable and consistent access to technology for all students, which is fundamental for daily classroom instruction, standardized testing, and digital literacy.
The approved plan outlines a phased replacement strategy for thousands of devices across the district’s campuses. While specific budgetary details and procurement timelines are being finalized, the district emphasized that the primary goal is to minimize disruption to learning. The initiative aims to provide both students and teachers with reliable, up-to-date tools necessary for a 21st-century education, thereby supporting enhanced learning outcomes and operational efficiency. District administrators state that this proactive approach will prevent widespread device failures and maintain the integrity of the instructional day.
