President Donald Trump spoke at a defense technology summit hosted by the U.S. Army War College on Thursday, but the address quickly veered away from battlefield strategy and into familiar campaign territory. Instead of detailing new weapons systems or military readiness, the president spent much of his time rehashing grievances about the 2020 election, attacking political rivals, and touting his administration's economic record.
The event, intended to showcase cutting-edge defense innovations, became a platform for Trump to criticize the Biden administration's handling of the military and foreign policy. He claimed that current leadership had weakened the armed forces and accused Democrats of undermining national security. He also repeated unsubstantiated claims about voter fraud and promised to restore "strength and respect" to the Pentagon if reelected.
Several attendees, including retired generals and defense contractors, expressed disappointment that the president did not engage with the technical or strategic topics on the agenda. One senior military analyst noted that the gathering was meant to foster serious discussion about hypersonic weapons and cyber defense, not to serve as a campaign rally.
The speech drew sharp reactions from Democrats, who accused Trump of politicizing a nonpartisan military institution. The White House declined to comment directly but reiterated that the president remains focused on his 2024 campaign.
